Abstract

This study attempts to discover the views of public managers in the Greater ABC Region of São Paulo, on Public-Private Partnerships. Statements were obtained from nine managers, whose duties include decision-making on public projects aimed at economic stimulation of the region. Although favorable towards PPPs, the managers do not see them as the ideal solution for the region's problems. Neither do they believe that private sector actions are the most appropriate measures for meeting the demands of the population. They accept them as the "only option", due to the high levels of debt in the public sector, and see the choice of suitable partners as one of the main challenges to be faced. However, they admit that PPPs can contribute to improving planning activities in the public sector, and that they represent an important step towards modernization.
