Abstract

The objective of this article is to present a study carried out with the Federation of Industries of the State of Catarina - FIESC, focusing on the obstacles to exportation by companies in Santa Catarina. Three economic sectors were highlighted: The food sector, the timber sector and the mechanical sector. It is an exploratory study, carried out by means of a survey. The data were collected by means of questionnaires with open and closed questions and analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The data reveal different views on the context of internationalization of the institutions investigated, despite the fact that many companies from different sectors share similar views. This suggests the existence of multiple theoretical explanations for the development of the internationalization process in Santa Catarina, as is the case with the theory of interaction and the theory of phases.
