Abstract

The objective of the present paper is to reflect about to what extent organizations are influenced by their external context, which is divided in technical environment and institutional environment, as well as three levels of analysis: the international reference context, the national context - characterized by federal government policies, and the local context. In this paper, firms in the electric sector are compared to each other to assess how the institutional and technical environments are internalized in firms' decisions and structures. On one hand, the analysis focus on the institutional pressures faced by the firms, and, on the other, it examine the implemented firm strategies. In all three cases, strategic decisions and structures reflect the pressures exerted from both technical and institutional environments.
