This article aims to understand the profile of students of the courses offered by the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), focusing mainly on aspects such as socioeconomic factors, level of involvement with the course, difficulties and expectations. A descriptive study was carried out, with data collection through an electronic questionnaire. The results indicated that in general, the students of this education unit face socioeconomic and pedagogical difficulties. It was identified that there are few students who dedicate a significant number of hours to study outside the classroom, but that the percentage who do not carry out any extracurricular activity is high. Even in view of these limiters of academic success, students had good expectations for the completion of the course, both in terms of insertion in the job market and in relation to the continuity of studies.
