The objective of this paper is to analyze the perceptions and use of computers by a group of language teachers. It is based on the Socio-Cultural Theory framework of the relationship between subject and knowledge, highlighting the use of computer resources as mediational tools in the teaching/learning process, and drawing from current perspectives on the interface between education and the new technologies. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. The results show that despite the importance given to the use of computers in the classroom, these technologies are not yet present as mediational means in the teaching and learning of languages. It is suggested that one initiative capable of changing this reality is investment in professional development for teachers, to promote the use of the new technologies for educational purposes.Downloads
