Abstract

This article is about a different approach to Literature as a high school subject compared to the historical perspective that has been attributed to this discipline, and the way it has influenced most of the textbooks used in classrooms in our country. It proposes a work focusing on the student’s interaction with the text, in such a way that it becomes possible for the student or reader to interact with the literary text, and produce meaning based on his or her experiences. What has been observed in a first year high school class, applying our new proposal for the teaching of Literature, and working with texts by Gregório de Matos and Padre Antonio Vieira, is that an approach was possible between the adolescent and the literary texts, as well as the construction of meaning and the equipping of students for reading tasks.
