Interactions, learning and development: an essay on tourism in Florianópolis

The contemporary debate on local and regional development is replete with references to the importance of the interrelations involving social players, learning and sustainability. The main focus of analysis in this debate is industry, but sectors such as tourism may also play a part in the reflections on the subject. This article addresses tourism in Florianópolis as inspiration in these analytical terms. Following the introduction, it gives an in-depth discussion of interactions, learning processes and local and regional development, characterizes tourism in Florianópolis, focuses on the binomial learning-development in relation to local tourism, and looks critically at problems of governance in the sector.
