Abstract

The main objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between the areas of knowledge, tourism and management, from a perspective of the contributions in different areas, establishing analogies and reflections, taking, as the empirical field, the case of the municipal district of São Luís, in the State of Maranhão. It addresses the epistemology of the analysis of the tourism phenomenon, and asks some questions related to the context of higher education in tourism, establishing links with management, in a theoretical atmosphere, demonstrating the paths to the evolution of the study of management, while at the same time, giving analogies and reflections. It questions the current scenario of degree courses in tourism, establishing connections with principles of studies in administration. The proposed study, which is characterized as descriptive-explanatory of the object, is based on the model of Tourism Education Quality (TEDQUAL). The spectrum of results obtained enables reflections and proposals based on the analysis of perspectives in higher education courses in tourism.
