Abstract

The aim of this work is to establish guidelines for the creation of integrated public policies linking the areas of culture and tourism, in tourism destinations. It seeks to identify and analyze the relations between these areas, and present the various types of tourism related to the use of the cultural assets and services The bibliographic and documentary review enabled parameters to be established for the existing discussions and for the directives of public policies converging towards the two areas. This work does not propose a subordination of the cultural policies to the needs of tourism. It defends the concept of partnership with the tourism sector, as a strategy for valorizing the local cultural sector, for its stimulation in qualitative and quantitative terms, and as an alternative means of viability for cultural production. It therefore proposes the adoption of some guidelines for the establishment of integrated policies, based on the principles of sustainability, local development and valorization of the identity and of the cultural production of local communities. Key words: Culture, tourism, public policies, tourism destinations, sustainable development.
