Mega-events and Tourism: a bibliometric study of the Brazilian journals of tourism

This study is a descriptive exploratory research aiming to analyze the production of scientific knowledge of the Brazilian journals of tourism over the subject “mega-events” as main objective through a bibliometric study, focusing 2010-15 period. Understanding how scholars are producing and publishing about mega-events in Brazilian journals is important considering the current context of Brazil as host country for sportive mega-events in 2014 and 2016.Among the 1,760 articles published in the period from January 2010 to December 2015, it was identified 12 articles on mega-events. Of this total, nine were about sportive mega-events, one about musical mega-event, another one about touristic strategy, and the last one about mega-events tourism. Thus, it was possible to understand the diversity of studies on mega-events and how their subject can contribute to tourism.Downloads
