TERRITORIAL AND CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH SYSTEMS OF PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT THROUGH INDICATORS

Abstract

The concept of sustainability has evolved according to the perception of the hierarchical levels in which it is applied, from nations to companies. The aim of this article is to propose an alignment between the concepts of corporate and territorial sustainability, based on the connections between sustainability management programs that use indicators. A systematic literature survey was carried out and, based on the identification of ten territorial sustainability management programs and twelve corporate sustainability assessment models, a content analysis of the indicators was conducted, to identify their similarities and trends. Based on the results of this analysis, a diagram was drawn up of the connections between a territory and a corporate organization, in search for more sustainable performances. A plurality of dimensions and connections were found between corporate sustainability and territorial sustainability. Four main connections were defined: Legal Compliance; Standardization of Processes; Efficiency and Risk Management; and Sustainable Value Chain. Based on these connections, we sought to translate possible links to support joint strategies between government and companies, highlighting the need for innovative approaches and participatory construction.
