This article is an excerpt of a master's research project on the Institutional Scholarship Program for Initiation to Teaching (Pibid) and its contributions to the establishment of the professional knowledge needed for teaching practice. Using a qualitative approach with an exploratory and descriptive design, data was collected through eight interviews with a semistructured script and observation records, with eight scholarship students participating in the Pibid/Pedagogy at a public school in the city of Campo Grande / MS, by means of semi-structured interviews and observation records. The results show the importance of the Program for the initial training and the insertion of the students in their teaching practice, in order to promote the construction of teaching knowledge through partnerships with more experienced professionals, knowledge of the institutional organization, and an awareness of the difficulties in teaching and the support they can expect from other people. The results also show that the experiences granted by the Pibid program were essential in the students’ decision to continue to pursue a teaching career.
