The article looks at the interconnections between migration, work and schooling, considering the reality of youth in the public middle schools in Florianopolis. The investigation relates to the difficulties in combing schooling and work, especially in the case of migrant students. The mobility of young people or their families affects their studies, leading to discontinuity and interruption of their studies, which can lead to drop-out or school failure. This paper is based on questionnaires, focus groups and interviews with students. It analyzes the problems faced by working class young people attempting to pursue their studies and start working, which can lead to migration instead of continuing school.
