The Catholic Faculty of Philosophy of Curitiba: an emblem of Catholic higher education in Parana (1950)

This article analyzes the process of constitution of the Catholic Faculty of Philosophy of Curitiba (FCFC), placing special emphasis on the problem of higher education among intellectuals of Paraná. Education and higher education are fundamental aspects in the political and pastoral intervention of the Catholic Church in Brazil and in Paraná. The creation of schools and the foundation of Higher Education Institutions and cultural centers are practical actions carried out by the Church. The strong presence of the Catholic Church in Secondary and Higher Education is a strategy for forming an intellectual and political elite in Brazil and Paraná. From a perspective of the intellectual history of education and FFCL data, it can be said that in Curitiba, Catholic Higher Education was established with the objective of forming new generations (intellectual and political leaders), and gathering intellectuals and politicians from the public domains, to serve the purposes of the Catholic Church.Downloads
