This work presents some considerations about teacher training in distance learning mode, in the context of expansion of higher education. It seeks, based on the history and formation of distance learning, to understand and reflect on the changes and transformations in policies on teacher training in HEIs and their implications, specifically at UFT (Federal University of Tocantins). The methodology adopted uses bibliographic and documentary sources, and interviews. The results show that there was a significant increase in the supply of teacher training courses in distance learning mode in the state of Tocantins. However, there are many challenges to be overcome in order to expand access and ensure quality in teacher training.
