Throughout the world, tourism has been a factor in promoting local development and, the city of Salvador, as an established tourist destination, mainly for its history and its culture, is an example of this reality. In this article, a critical reflection is made on the trends in national and international tourism, highlighting the National Tourism Plan and the relationship between Globalization and New Technologies. The main focus is the city of Salvador, which has been a priority in the state government's agenda along with other "tourist products". In relation to leveraging tourism in Bahia, this article highlights the importance of emphasizing planning and institutional interconnectedness between State and Municipality, of creating a Cluster of Tourism and Culture, and of the relationship between tourism and the coming into place of a tourism planning information system. With these actors we can see that the globalized world Will accommodate only those localities that work aptly with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), as these have become determining factors for competitiveness. This can be seen, for instance, in the possibility of purchasing tour packages and tickets through the Internet. Therefore, for the city of Salvador, the use of the new ICT is indispensable for its success as a tourist product. Key-words: Tourism. Communication and Information Technologies.
